5 ways to shine on Pinterest in 2025

Pinterest is always evolving, and now we’re a couple of months into 2025, it's the perfect time to check that your strategy is still on track. Truth time: If you’re using Pinterest for business the same way you were a few years ago, this isn’t going to work.

The platform favours fresh, relevant content and adapting to its latest best practices is key to success. Whether you're just getting started or refining your approach, these five key actions will help you get more views, leads, mailing list sign ups and the results you want from Pinterest this year.

1. Create fresh pin content

Pinterest prioritises fresh content, meaning that brand new images, graphics and videos perform better than endlessly repinning the same old pins. Even if you’re sharing existing content, create new pin designs with updated text overlays, different imagery or alternative brand colour combinations to keep things engaging.

Think about what’s trending in your niche and adapt your visuals to stay relevant. Pinterest users love content that feels current, inspiring and worth saving.

Example pin: If you’re a food blogger, instead of re-sharing an old pin for a recipe, create a new pin with a different plating style, fresh text overlay or even a process shot of the dish being made.

2. Optimise your content for Pinterest’s search engine

Pinterest is a visual search engine, which means your content needs to be discoverable. Using strategic keywords in your pin titles, descriptions and board names helps your content surface when users search for relevant topics.

Do some keyword research using Pinterest’s search bar—start typing a term related to your content and see what autocomplete suggests. Those suggested phrases are what people are actively searching for! Make sure your keywords flow naturally in your descriptions ie. use descriptive sentences. No keyword or hashtag stuffing!

Example pin: If you’re a travel blogger sharing a guide to Paris, include keywords like "Paris travel tips," "things to do in Paris," and "best places to visit in Paris" in your pin description.

3. Use video pins

Video content continues to perform well on Pinterest, grabbing attention in a way that static images sometimes don’t. Short, engaging videos that demonstrate a process, show off a product, or share quick tips are perfect for capturing interest and encouraging engagement.

Keep videos concise (6–15 seconds works well), add text overlays for clarity (this info is also read by the Pinterest algorithms) and ensure they make sense without sound (many users browse without audio on). Pinterest is prioritising video, so using it strategically can give your content a real boost.

Example pin: A beauty brand could create a short tutorial showing how to apply a trending makeup look with quick, engaging clips.

4. Plan seasonal content ahead of time

Seasonal content performs exceptionally well on Pinterest—but only if you post it in advance! Because Pinterest works as a search engine, users tend to plan early. That means you should be pinning content for major holidays, seasons and events at least 1–2 months before they happen.

Think about your industry and the seasonal topics your audience cares about. If you're in interiors, start pinning spring decor ideas in early February. If you're in fashion, get your summer styling tips ready by April. The earlier you get your content out there, the more time it has to gain traction.

Example pin: A fitness coach could share a “Get Summer Ready” workout plan in March to ensure it reaches users planning ahead.

5. Focus on creating helpful Pins your audience want to save

Pinterest is all about inspiration and discovery. The best performing pins are those that provide real value—whether that's a how-to guide, a styling tip, a recipe or a design idea.

Before creating a pin, ask yourself: Would my ideal audience find this useful, inspiring, or actionable? Pins that answer common questions, solve problems, or spark creativity tend to be saved, shared and engaged with the most. Prioritise content that your audience will genuinely want to keep coming back to.

Example Pin: A home organisation expert could create a pin showcasing “5 Simple Storage Hacks for Small Spaces” with an easy to follow visual guide.

Pinterest success in 2025 comes down to staying fresh, optimising for search and creating content that genuinely resonates with your audience. By focusing on these five strategies, you'll be in a great position to increase your reach, boost engagement and make Pinterest a valuable marketing tool for your business.
