How to keep your business moving (Even when you feel like hibernating)
It’s January. It’s cold. It’s grey. The urge to hibernate is very real. If, like me, you’re still hearing noise from the “big goals” and “major transformations” brigade but aren’t feeling ready to tackle massive changes right now—that’s okay. The truth is, small, consistent actions can be just as effective.
The best piece of business advice I’ve ever been given was: “Do one thing every day that moves your business forward.” It doesn’t have to be huge, just something that makes a difference and leaves you feeling good. Whether it’s tweaking your Instagram bio, reaching out to someone you’ve admired on Insta for ages, or tidying up your desktop (insert smug face because mine is finally clear!), those little wins add up.
What I’ve also learned is to do that one thing first thing in the day. There’s nothing quite like ticking off a meaningful task early and riding that buzz for the rest of your day.
To help you, I’m sharing quick, actionable tips for your social media that can be tackled in minutes but will make a real impact on your visibility, engagement and how you feel about your business.
PS – You don’t have to do all of these things. Just pick a couple or try doing one a day.
Add a clear call-to-action (CTA) that tells people exactly what to do next: “DM me for tips!” or “Shop the link below.” Also, ensure your profile name includes a keyword your ideal audience might search for, e.g., “Jane | Wedding Photographer.”
Refresh your Instagram highlights with updated covers and content that showcases your services, products or FAQs.
Spend 10 minutes replying to comments on your recent posts or commenting thoughtfully on posts by accounts that you really love.
Review the hashtags on your last three posts. Are they still relevant? Swap out generic ones for more specific, niche hashtags.
Engage your audience by creating a poll on Instagram Stories. It’s a quick way to gather insights and boost engagement.
Revisit a few old pins and update their descriptions with keywords your audience might be searching for.
Make sure your board titles are keyword rich and reflect what your audience is searching for. Replace vague titles like “Inspiration” with “Modern Wedding Ideas” or “Healthy Meal Prep Tips.”
Take 5 minutes to create a new pin linking directly to a page on your website that gets good engagement, such as a freebie, shop page or blog post.
Other stuff
Add a link in your email signature to your latest offer, blog post, or social media profile. Something as simple as “Follow me on Pinterest for daily inspiration” can drive traffic.
Send a quick email or DM to a happy client or customer asking for a testimonial. Social proof goes a long way in building trust.
Take a popular social media post and turn it into an email, blog post or a carousel on Instagram.
Spend 10 minutes reviewing your Instagram and/or Pinterest analytics. Identify what’s working well and brainstorm how to replicate that success.
Test the links in your bio, Link Tree and website to make sure everything is working smoothly and leading to the right destination.
