How to convert your Instagram followers into buyers

Do you want to turn your Instagram followers into buyers?

From awareness to consideration to decision, there are key touchpoints along the way that can influence a customer's decision to make a purchase. You need to understand the buyer journey.

By creating content that speaks to each stage of the journey, you can build trust with your followers and guide them towards making a purchase.

Here are my tips on how to convert your Instagram followers into loyal customers:

Step 1

They follow you. They like what they see and they want to know more. It’s here that you make sure they get to know, like and trust you. Share your biz journey, why you do what you do and give them an insight into the person behind the account. Share content that solves their problems, makes them laugh or inspires them to take action.

Step 2

They become an engaged community member. You’ve built up trust and they look to you as an authority in your field. You engage in meaningful conversations in public and in your DMs. You ask their opinion and take it on board. You’re supportive of them and what they do.

Step 3

They become a client or customer. Steps 1 and 2 have made this happen. It didn’t happen quickly but you got here. You’ve developed a relationship, you’ve demonstrated that you deliver. This is the point that your followers will take the plunge and invest with you or buy the thing. It goes without saying that at this point you need to make it as dammed easy as possible for people to buy form you. Are your Instagram shopping tags set up? Is your website easy to navigate? Is your checkout sequence a smooth experience?

And when they do buy from you it doesn’t mean you can sit back and relax. You have to keep this relationship warm and exciting. Show them you care with exclusives or special offers. Let them know how thankful you are for their support and that you want them to stick around.

Step 4

They become a cheerleader. They’ve had a great experience with you, they may become a repeat customer but more importantly they tell others about you. They big you up, leave a fantastic review and post images of themselves using/wearing your product or service (User Generated Content).

Because of this you attract new followers and the cycle begins again.

This isn’t an overnight process. It’s a lot of work but enjoyable work. It’s like getting to know a person IRL. You don’t become besties straight away. You find things out about each other slowly, get curious and develop a relationship based on mutual interests and beliefs.

It’s the same on Insta but the magic happens through your keyboard rather than in conversations (though I do love a voice note sesh in my DMs).

Followers do not = sales.

Relationships and proving yourself = sales.

I encourage you to explore your mindset around this and if you need help then I’m here. Book in for a free Discovery Call today so we can work out which of my services is best for you.
