How to make more Christmas sales: Give people the feels
So it’ll be fairly obvious from your social media what you sell but sometimes what you sell isn't the only thing people are looking for. They want the feels.
What do I mean by this? I mean how your customer and/or the recipient feel when they buy or receive your product. It’s been proven by people much cleverer than me that we aren’t using our rational brain when scrolling through social media, we’re scrolling to feel things – (using the Limbic Brain if you want to get all scientific about things!).
Ask yourself about your products:
Will the customer feel happy they’ve bought a thoughtful gift for a friend?
Will the customer feel happy they supported a small business?
Will the customer feel relieved that they won't have to worry about gift wrapping because you offer it as part of your service?
Will the recipient feel special because so much care and time has gone into making and/or choosing it?
Giving people the feels shouldn't be that hard in all honesty as your passion for what you do, I hope, comes through in what you say and create for social media.
For example, if your caption says, “I sell beaded bracelets in lots of colours,” then I honestly don’t think you’ll make many sales.
If your caption says, “Here’s my latest range of bracelets with beads and charms sourced ethically from all over the world. I’ve literally spent hours researching them and I’m so happy with the final designs. Just look at how the colours catch the sunlight! You can personalise your bracelet with initials and charms of your choice or if you’d like a bespoke design or colours, get in touch and let’s see what I can do! I can also include a handwritten note to the recipient which will be sent in my fresh new packaging I’ve designed for this Christmas.”
See the difference? You feel involved, you feel the care and attention that's gone in to the making, you feel the brand ethos. I know which one I’d choose to buy from.
When you’re posting about your products this Christmas (and always), I want you to think about how you want the gift buyer and the recipient to feel and channel all that loveliness into your content.
Also you can totally update posts you’ve already published. Go back through your content today and add that extra sparkle!
