Why brand values are an important part of your Instagram Strategy
Do you know what your brand values are? Do you know why they’re so important?
Your values are your guide. They show up in everything you do, write and say.
They’re the golden thread holding everything together.
They attract your people. The people who get you, who love your vibe and want to find out more.
I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of the vanilla values that get churned out time and time again – integrity, trustworthy, reliable… (urgh corporate flashbacks in coming). I don’t expect people to be anything other than these things in business and in life!
Identifying your values is a very personal thing. They don’t have to sound formal or like anything you’ve heard before. They just need to sound like you! It’s about digging deep and exploring what’s important to you as a person and how you want to make others feel.
Here are mine:
Love – for myself, my family, my clients, my work, everything I do. It’s about accepting everybody as I find them.
Stability – for my family, for my clients and their businesses, for my business.
Expression – being creative and letting my personality shine through in my work, my home, what I wear and how I spend my free time.
Growth – personal growth, business growth, helping my clients grow.
Freedom – to work around family life, to work with my dream clients when and where I choose, freedom for everyone to be who they want to be.
Adventure – I’ll never stop being curious, exploring new things, going new places, meeting new people and bringing those experiences with me in everything I do personally and professionally.
Fun – because life is too short to sweat the small stuff.
Brand values are one of the first things we work together on when I’m creating you your Instagram Strategy. Together we figure them out and once we have them nailed that’s when the magic really starts to happen. So, do you know what your brand values are? Grab a piece of paper and start brainstorming words that describe you and your business. Next see if there are any themes coming through. If there are then try and distil the theme down into one word. And bingo! That’s one of your values.
You could also make a mood board and see where that leads you. I’d recommend Pinterest or Shuffles or even go OG and cut images and words out of magazines and stick them into a collage.
